Chapter 208 A Tricky Problem (2)
Chapter 208 A Tricky Problem (2)
As Yan Zuozuo walked out of the company, she called Chi Moqing, "Honey, do you have time now?"
"What's wrong?" Sensing the urgency in Yan Zuozuo's tone, Chi Moqing became worried. "Has something happened?"
"Zixin has gone missing. I can't get in touch with her. Can you help me find her?"
Chi Moqing hesitated for a moment: "Don't rush, tell me slowly."
Yan Zuozuo recounted the phone call she had just received from Su Kang, and then added, "Su Fei came back a couple of days ago, and I suspect it might be related to her. Honey, can you help me find Zixin as soon as possible? I'm very worried about her."
"Okay, don't worry, I'll have someone check right now." He reassured her gently, as if he wasn't surprised at all that Sophie had returned. After a while, he asked, "Are you home now?"
"No, I just arrived at the company entrance. I took the day off today."
Chi Moqing said, "Why don't you come here and wait for news? If something really happens, you'll know immediately."
Yan Zuozuo thought about it. Since she didn't know where else to look for someone, she figured she might feel more at ease if she went to Chi Moqing's place. So she nodded in agreement and said she would be there soon.
After hanging up, just as she was about to hail a taxi, she saw Meng Xinyu walking over.
"Don't worry too much, team leader. Your friend isn't a child anymore. He knows how to take care of himself." Whether it was Yan Zuozuo being paranoid or not, she felt that Meng Xinyu was being somewhat gloating.
She glanced at her: "I hope so."
"Team leader, there's something I'd like to talk to you about." Meng Xinyu had no intention of leaving and stood beside Yan Zuozuo with a smile.
Yan Zuozuo turned her head to look at her: "If it's about work, let's talk about it when I get to work."
"It's not entirely business." Meng Xinyu smiled confidently and smugly, looking at Yan Zuozuo provocatively, "I won't hide it from you, I really like Young Master Ou, and I'm determined to have him!"
Yan Zuozuo blinked: "This is your private matter, you don't need to report it to me."
"I'm not reporting to you, but telling you to be prepared. I've decided to persuade Young Master Ou to let me handle their costume design this time. If I succeed, I hope the team leader won't blame me."
Yan Zuozuo raised an eyebrow: "Then I wish you success." As soon as she finished speaking, the taxi stopped in front of her, and she got in and drove away.
Meng Xinyu was taken aback, not expecting such a nonchalant reaction. What did this mean? Did she not believe in her abilities, or was she simply unwilling to compete with her?
Her face turned ashen with rage, and she stood there with a gloomy expression: "What are you so arrogant about? You're just relying on your cousin's backing. You just wait, one day I'll kick you out of the Chi family!"
When Yan Zuozuo arrived at the entrance of the Chi family, she saw Chi Moqing standing there with a handsome man standing next to him. Although he looked very young, he gave people a sense of composure and maturity. This should be Chi Moqing's new secretary.
Seeing Yan Zuozuo come over, Chi Moqing said to his secretary, "Alright, you can go back to work. Don't call me today unless it's something important."
"Yes, President." The secretary nodded politely to Yan Zuozuo and then turned to go back to the company.
Yan Zuozuo nodded to him and quickly walked to Chi Moqing's side. "Why are you standing here? Is there news about Zixin?"
Chi Moqing pursed her lips: "Fu Zixin is at Shengjia Hospital now. We don't know the specifics yet. I'll go with you."
Yan Zuozuo stiffened and gripped Chi Moqing's arm tightly. "The hospital? What happened? Is it serious?"
"We don't know yet, let's go and take a look first." Chi Moqing reassured her, "Don't worry, it might just be a minor illness."
Yan Zuozuo forced a smile. She knew very well that it couldn't be a minor illness; otherwise, given Fu Zixin's stubborn nature, she wouldn't have left her child behind and been hospitalized alone. She was panicked and kept praying.
Suddenly remembering Su Kang, he quickly called him, "I've found Zixin, she's at Shengjia Hospital now, I'm on my way there, you should come too."
"I understand, thank you." Su Kang hung up the phone and rushed to Shengjia Hospital.
Yan Zuozuo never expected that Fu Zixin would be in the intensive care unit; she felt like she'd been struck by lightning. How did she end up in the intensive care unit all of a sudden?
"Doctor, what happened? What's wrong with her health? Why is she in the intensive care unit?"
"Ms. Fu's injuries were caused by external force. According to the person who brought her to the hospital, Ms. Fu kindly helped an old lady who had fallen, but the old lady tried to extort money from her. When Ms. Fu refused to pay compensation, the old lady's family members came and beat her, resulting in serious injuries."
Yan Zuozuo was shocked and had no time to care about the old lady or not. She was only concerned about Fu Zixin's injuries. "How serious is it? How serious is it?"
"There's a blood clot in his head, we've already examined him, and he'll have surgery tomorrow." After a pause, the doctor said meticulously, "It's likely caused by a severe blow to the head. By the way, are you his family members? We'll need a family member's signature for tomorrow's surgery."
"I'll sign!" Yan Zuozuo's voice choked with sobs. She was doing a good deed, so how did she end up like this?
With the doctor's permission, she rushed to the intensive care unit and saw Fu Zixin, covered in injuries, lying face down on the bed, her face pale. Her heart clenched, and her eyes quickly welled up with tears.
"Zixin, how could this happen?" Her tears fell in a steady stream, and she sobbed uncontrollably.
Chi Moqing went over and hugged her tightly: "Don't cry, everything will be alright."
Yan Zuozuo burst into tears in her arms: "Even if Zixin did something wrong before and became a third party, she has suffered a lot in the past two years. Hasn't she suffered enough? Why does God have to punish her like this?"
Tears welled in her eyes as she looked at the unconscious Fu Zixin, a pang of pain shooting through her heart. Her best friend was utterly incompetent; she hadn't even known she'd suffered such a serious injury.
She threw herself at Fu Zixin's side, holding her hand tightly. "Zixin, I'm so sorry, it's all my fault. Please don't let anything happen to you, you're my only good friend..."
She knew perfectly well that Fu Zixin had no relatives and an unhappy marriage, yet she didn't show her much concern. Even when Fu Zixin was in this state, she was the last to know. She really wanted to slap herself.
Seeing her heartbroken expression, Chi Moqing put his arm around her shoulder and said gently, "Don't cry, everything will be alright."
Yan Zuozuo nodded vigorously. Seeing Fu Zixin like this, she couldn't help but recall the time her mother passed away, and a wave of panic washed over her. She gripped Chi Moqing's arm tightly, repeating over and over, "Yes, she won't be in trouble... she won't be in trouble..."
After visiting hours were over, they were asked to leave the ward. Standing outside the ward, Yan Zuozuo looked at the unconscious Fu Zixin through the glass, feeling extremely sad.
Just then, a familiar, tall figure came running over quickly. Yan Zuozuo turned around and saw Su Kang staggering. As soon as he approached, he asked anxiously, "How is Zixin?"
Yan Zuozuo then noticed that Su Kang was walking with a limp, had abrasions on his face, and was covered in blood on his forehead. She was stunned and asked, "What happened to you?"
"It's not important. How is Zixin? Why is she in the intensive care unit?"
Yan Zuozuo gave a brief explanation, then said, "You should take care of your wounds first."
Su Kang was very persistent, insisting on staying outside the ward and refusing to leave. Yan Zuozuo had no choice but to call a nurse to treat his wounds, but Su Kang refused, his eyes fixed on Fu Zixin as if afraid she would disappear.
Yan Zuozuo frowned: "What are you doing? Are you afraid Zixin won't be in enough pain if she sees you like this? Treat your wound first!"
Seeing Yan Zuozuo's serious expression, Su Kang finally allowed the nurse to treat his wound. Zixin was already in such a state; how could he bear to make her sad any further?
It was getting late, and staying here like this wasn't a solution. Just as the doctor was about to leave after his rounds, Yan Zuozuo suddenly called out to him, "Do you have any videos of those people who extorted money from Zixin? We want to see them!"
The doctor paused for a moment, then said, "I don't know about that; you'll have to contact the hospital."
Chi Moqing frowned and immediately asked for the dean's phone number. The dean arrived quickly, but was stunned when he heard Chi Moqing say he wanted to check the surveillance footage. "It's not that we don't want to show it to President Chi, but someone has already taken the recording. The other party has a lot of influence, and we don't dare to offend them."
"Who is it?" Chi Moqing narrowed his eyes, his aura intimidating.
"They're from the government," the hospital director said helplessly. "Although we were negligent in our monitoring, we will definitely have the most authoritative doctor perform tomorrow's surgery. President Chi, please rest assured."
Chi Moqing remained silent. Since even the hospital's surveillance footage had been taken, it was easy to guess that the surveillance footage from the accident site had also been taken. The other party had connections to the government; this matter seemed rather troublesome. He quickly called the traffic police, and sure enough, their footage had also been taken.
Yan Zuozuo was furious: "What is this? Is this bullying others by abusing one's power?"
Chi Moqing put his arm around her shoulder and said, "Calm down. No matter what, I will definitely help you get justice for Fu Zixin."
Yan Zuozuo's eyes turned red with anger. What's wrong with this society? When nothing's wrong, everything's fine, but once something happens, either the surveillance cameras are broken, there's a blind spot, or the footage has been stolen. If that's the case, what's the point of having surveillance cameras?
Su Kang remained silent throughout, but it was clear that his anger was even stronger than Yan Zuozuo's; veins bulged on his forehead and even on the back of his hands. He took a deep breath and said, "It's getting late, you should all go back and rest. Zixin has surgery tomorrow, I'll stay here with her, there's no point in having more people."
Yan Zuozuo refused to leave, and Su Kang glanced at her, "I'll have to stay with Zixin for the next few days. I'm afraid I'll have to trouble you with the child's affairs. You know I don't feel comfortable leaving the child with my parents."
Yan Zuozuo lowered her eyes before agreeing to leave. She asked Su Kang to temporarily send the child to her place, since they weren't comfortable leaving the child with just a nanny.
When she and Chi Moqing returned home, the nanny had already arrived with Fu Zixin's daughter, Bao'er, and was playing with the child with her own nanny. Yan Zuozuo went over and hugged the little one. She was a pitiful child; she had an eye problem that hadn't been treated yet, and now that Fu Zixin was hospitalized, she felt even more sorry for the child.
Chi Moqing arranged for Bao'er and the nanny to stay in another room, so that the two nannies could take care of the child together. Even if they were at work during the day, there wouldn't be any problems with two people taking care of Bao'er.
Back in the bedroom, Yan Zuozuo nestled in Chi Moqing's arms, her brows furrowed. Seeing her like this, Chi Moqing held her even tighter, "Wife, don't worry, everything will be alright."
Yan Zuozuo nodded, her voice muffled, "Why is Zixin so unlucky? They're clearly two people in love, but they always torment each other. I used to blame Su Kang for treating Zixin badly, but seeing him like that today, I suddenly feel like I wronged him."
"No one can predict matters of the heart; we can only leave it to them to handle. All we can do is hope they find happiness soon," Chi Moqing comforted her, disliking seeing Yan Zuozuo so heartbroken.
Yan Zuozuo nodded and snuggled into his arms. She was still terrified when she thought of how Su Kang had smashed the wall so frantically today. She looked up at Chi Moqing and said, "Husband, promise me one thing."
