Chapter 144 The Ghost King's Beloved Wife's Unlucky Sister (25)
There was basically no homework on the day of the midterm exam, so Xu Yaqin quickly finished her homework and then took out her notebook to start teaching Xu Yayang arithmetic.
Xu Yayang's obese body was squeezed next to the cabinet. Xu Yaqin was teaching addition and subtraction within ten. 8-4-3-1=0, but Xu Yayang couldn't understand it even after trying to count with his ten fingers for a long time.
Xu Yaqin had to try a different approach. "Yangyang, how about I give you an example? If you have eight apples, Mom eats three, Dad eats four, and your sister eats one, how many apples are left?"
This is just a simple example. Xu Yayang looked at the cabinet with only homework books, suddenly pushed Xu Yaqin away, and yelled at the top of his lungs, "Mom, Xu Yaqin had apples but didn't give me any."
Upon hearing the noise, Fu Linan rushed in and began rummaging through Xu Yaqin's schoolbag, saying as she did so, "How can you be so selfish?"
You have apples but you won't give them to your younger brother. Do you even know that Yangyang is your own brother?
"After you get married, your younger brother will be like family to you, always there to support you."
Whether she gets married or not, Xu Yaqin doesn't know. All she knows is that she really wants to cry. Why did they go through her things without her permission?
She had absolutely no privacy. She kind of wanted to go to school, at least then the teachers wouldn't rummage through her things, and the kids at school wouldn't dare bully her.
Fu Linan kept rummaging around, and she actually found something. She found a few small trinkets, first earrings, then a dragon and phoenix pendant about the size of two palms put together. The pendant felt cool to the touch and didn't seem like plastic at all. Moreover, the pendant could be disassembled.
Xu Yayang was about to cry when she realized she hadn't found the apple, but then she saw something else fun and tried to grab it. However, Fu Linan slapped her aside, and Xu Yayang pouted, about to cry.
Xu Yaqin saw that the things Xiong Bufan had given her had been found. "Mom, those things were given to me by Xu Fenghua. Please give them back to me."
Fu Linan ignored Xu Yaqin, fascinated by the dragon and phoenix pendants. She broke them apart and tapped them gently, producing a crisp sound. These were indeed not plastic; judging by their translucency, they were valuable.
After crying for a while, Xu Yayang saw that Fu Linan ignored him, so he cried even harder. Fu Linan stuffed the jade pendant and earrings into her pocket, and then picked up Xu Yayang and coaxed him, "Our Yangyang is a man, don't cry so easily."
While Fu Linan was hugging him, Xu Yayang secretly slipped his hand inside her clothes, but Fu Linan caught his hand and coaxed, "Yangyang, be good. Mom will make you something delicious later."
Xu Yaqin: "Mom, that thing is mine."
"What's yours is ours. Your food, drink, school fees, and textbooks—everything is provided by our family. Now you're dividing up that little bit of stuff between us. How can you be so selfish?"
Xu Yaqin burst into tears after being told this. Xu Yayang clapped his hands with joy when he saw Xu Yaqin crying, "Mom, she actually cried, haha."
"Don't cry, wipe your tears and teach Yangyang to do arithmetic." Fu Linan put Xu Yayang down, patted Xu Yayang's head and said, "Sweetie, you stay home with your sister for now. Mom will be back in a little while. If you're hungry, your sister can fry some eggs for you."
Xu Yayang: "Mom, when are you coming back?"
"I'll be back soon. I'll buy you something delicious when I get back."
"Then I want to eat lollipops and spicy strips."
"it is good."
Xu Yaqin stood to the side like an outsider, but she quickly changed, becoming like a maid. Fu Linan said to Xu Yaqin, "Take good care of your brother. When I get back, don't secretly hit him."
Xu Yaqin didn't want to talk because she was afraid that she would burst into tears if she spoke, since her mother had taken away the things her best friend had given her.
After giving her instructions, Fu Linan didn't even bother cooking and went straight to town to find Xu Yaqin's father, Xu Zhen.
Xu Yayang ran outside and behaved himself. Since his mother wasn't home, he wouldn't go near Xu Yaqin, lest she beat him up.
Xu Yaqin quietly tidied up the books that had been turned upside down. When she saw that no one was paying attention to her, she slowly lifted her sleeves, revealing two white jade bracelets on her wrists. They seemed to be the purest and most flawless things in the world.
Xiong Bufan looked at the food in front of her with a dilemma. It was too salty to eat, but she was hungry if she didn't. She couldn't keep sleeping by the water vat and smashing a hole in it to let the water flow into her mouth when she was thirsty.
Xu's mother took a bite of the food and quickly spat it out. "I put too much salt in the food again tonight. Third son, wait here, I'll put the food back in the pot and serve it to you in a bit."
Xu's father cleared the dishes off the table and said, "Junior sister, let me help you."
Xiong Bufan said to Kongkong, "Do you think they don't like me, so they made the dishes so salty?"
Should I go and beat them up?
They were the original owner's parents and also the targets of the mission. Xiong Bufan felt it was best not to act rashly and to ask Kongkong's opinion first.
Kongkong: "Stop fighting! Xu Jiaojiao has taken all the money from the house and disappeared somewhere."
It's understandable that they were distracted, after all, they had suddenly lost two children.
Xiong Bufan felt that Xu Jiaojiao had taken away her whole world, and shouted to Kongkong, "What? She took all the money?"
Why didn't you say so sooner?
Kongkong replied matter-of-factly, "You didn't ask."
Xiong Bufan fell silent. This was the first time she had ever been silent, mainly because she didn't know what to say. But she quickly realized what was going on, rushed out of the house, gathered all the non-salty food together, and put it into her rice bowl.
Xu's mother: "Third son, wait a little longer, the food will be ready soon. Eating rice on its own is not nutritious."
"I'm willing."
Xu's parents would offer a grand sacrifice to the ancestor on the first and fifteenth of each month. Today happened to be the fifteenth. Xu's father didn't say anything, but slowly walked out of the kitchen to take down the offerings that had been made to the ancestor that morning. He brought them back and put them in Xiong Bufan's rice bowl. "Third brother, eat."
Xu's parents may not have been good at teaching their child, but they gave the child everything they had.
