Chapter 384 - 20: You Can Stomach This, Too
Westheid becoming a Super Wheel King, an ultimate piledriver within the Royal Court, was certainly part of his unconventional strategy for conquering it. But he wouldn’t conquer the Royal Court with just his lower half.
After all, the Thousand Laws Royal Court was a true faction of Order. Thanks to his high Charm Attribute suppressing and attracting those with the Enchanter Bloodline, Westheid could rely on his "piledriver" qualities to forcefully carve out a place for himself in the female-dominated Central Royal Court.
Could he really conquer the Demons occupying two-thirds of the Land of Rhythm with his "piledriver" skills too?!
’Wait... some of them, maybe I really can... No, the odds are too random. I can’t pin my hopes on that.’
’In any case, these Demons must be purged. There’s no other way!’
Thus, when Eilvette posed his question, Westheid immediately gave an enthusiastic response.
Eilvette nodded and said,
"If that’s the case, then I invite you, Duke Qinghui, to lead your troops in the reclamation battle in a few days. While I have no authority to command your legion, I hope you will at least heed the general strategic advice of the Royal Court commanders present. I trust the integration training these past few days wasn’t just some ineffective, superficial exercise?"
As the Grand Law Officer, he would not be fighting on the front lines. It wasn’t that he was a coward, but that he needed to hold the fort at the Central Royal Court to protect the core nodes of the [Thousand Laws Ceremony]. Besides, if they didn’t reclaim the nodes that the Demons had occupied and twisted, the Tuner profession of his Path wouldn’t be of much use anyway.
’So they’re meek as lambs against the Demons, but tough when it comes to fighting their own, is that it?’
This, however, actually worked in Westheid’s favor. If Eilvette were on the battlefield with him, Westheid would inevitably have to compete with the Grand Law Officer for the spotlight. There was only one lead role on this stage, and when it came to vanity, Westheid would not yield an inch.
And so, over the next few days, the Central Royal Court’s expeditionary force began to mobilize. Eilvette had been preparing for this battle for a long time, and he had even pulled in detachments from many of the legions garrisoning the frontiers.
Every type of Transcendent from the Path of Resonance whose profession wasn’t heavily restricted by the nodes was incorporated into the expeditionary legion.
Sound Wave Mages, Stringed Swordsmen, Dancing Veils... batches upon batches of these Lower-Rank Professions were brought to the battlefield. And that wasn’t all. To compensate for the lack of Tuners, the Royal Court Legion decided to rely on external aids as much as possible.
Finely crafted armaments, constructed mechanisms, and all manner of vehicles and warships rolled off the assembly lines. The Grand Law Officer’s main focus during this period had been coordinating the production of the workshops, and the final results were quite impressive.
"They really spared no expense."
Westheid remarked, standing on the bow of a hovering Wave-Breaking Ship as he gazed at the vast and mighty fleet on either side.
Hundreds of warships, fully laden with soldiers, advanced across the clear, wide lake, their passage heralded by the sound of howling gales and raging, broken waves.
Unlike the mass-produced Floating Battleships of the Celestial Vault Kingdom, these ships could only hover. This was because the sky over the Land of Rhythm was a Domain where the Grand Ensemble flowed, and a no-fly Law had always been in effect. As such, the specialized warships of the Thousand Laws Royal Court were designed merely to stay afloat.
And to better adapt to the terrain of the Land of Rhythm, the Techniques covering these warships were all permanent buffs like [Water Area Enhancement] and [Lake Light Blessing], allowing them to move at high speeds through any waterway and never sink.
On the decks of the Wave-Breaking Ships, there were even various types of Constructed Golems. These heavy constructs had completely sacrificed mobility, instead being inlaid with all kinds of long-range projectile weaponry, capable of unleashing a metric ton of firepower in an instant.
They essentially served as the Wave-Breaking Ships’ gun turrets, shouldering the crucial roles of long-range damage output and suppressive fire.
"Compared to the Royal Court’s accumulation over thousands of years, this is nothing. If large swathes of the Land of Rhythm hadn’t already fallen, we would have been able to build a much larger fleet—and more than one."
Amithren stood at Westheid’s side, her sentiment as she surveyed their surroundings completely different from his. She even felt a little melancholy.
"So this is the foundation of an old Realm of Order. Qinghui Territory still seems a bit like an upstart in comparison."
Westheid chuckled at her words. His influence had expanded to a ridiculous degree, but when it came to his home base, Qinghui Territory, it probably couldn’t even compare to the crippled Thousand Laws Royal Court without the technological support of the Celestial Vault Kingdom.
Yolanda was very displeased by her lord’s self-deprecating comment and said with a frown,
"Isn’t that to be expected? My Lord, how long do you think it’s been since we recovered from our status as beaten dogs?"
"Most of our current prestige is thanks to the Imperial and Yonglan. You don’t pay any attention at all to managing our own domain, and yet you’re here sighing about why Su Yue’s production capacity can’t keep up!"
Westheid said casually, "Well, taking what’s already there is much faster than starting from scratch."
Rather than steadily developing his own base, Westheid much preferred to aggressively expand his influence and snatch up territories that other nations had already built.
Only by doing so could he create the momentum to devour everything like a whale. This was true for the Imperial Provinces, it was true for the Country of Yonglan, and now... it was true for the Thousand Laws Royal Court.
Every time, he would ride the wave of a greater trend to encroach upon and claim territory under a righteous-sounding pretext.
In the Imperial, he had the endorsement and support of Reiya, a legitimate Princess, as well as his appointment to the position of Regent King. In the Country of Yonglan, he had started with Mivana’s Dusk Lamp Territory, eventually taking control of the Knight Country’s resources by ascending the throne as the Knight King.
’As for the Thousand Laws Royal Court... none of the various Elf Noble Ladies I’ve dallied with recently seem capable of achieving anything significant. The most crucial piece of the puzzle is definitely the Wind Law Queen.’
