Chapter 2390 - 2366: A Bit Arrogant
The veterans were changing gear, while the new recruits looked on enviously. Then, those new recruits got the urgently needed opportunity to go into battle the very same day.
In fact, Gao Yang didn’t care if Iran’s control over the Houthis Armed Forces was stronger or not. As long as he could drag Saudi Arabia into the conflict, that’s all that mattered. Who did it was of no concern to him. He initially planned to watch from afar while others fought, letting the Iranians fetch his chestnuts from the fire would have been even better.
But upon hearing that a military camp had self-propelled artillery and tanks, Gao Yang couldn’t sit still. He got excited and wanted to personally stage a raid to capture some spoils.
Gao Yang first gathered Rebrov and his artillery team, then invited Salim to join his pre-battle meeting.
Gao Yang pointed to a spot on the map and said to Salim, "Is this the military camp you were referring to?"
Salim looked at it for a while, then nodded and said, "Yes, that’s the one."
Gao Yang circled the spot on the map and said loudly, "So how many troops are you prepared to commit to the assault on the camp? Because this battle isn’t something we can win on our own. At the very least, you need to ensure we’re not disturbed by enemy reinforcements. So how many troops can you commit?"
Salim pondered for a moment, then said to Gao Yang, "I don’t really understand warfare, but I can guarantee you that we will commit at least more than a thousand men to cooperate with your battle."
Gao Yang raised a finger and said sternly, "The only question is, why haven’t the soldiers from that camp engaged in the battle yet? They have tanks and artillery, so why haven’t they joined in yet?"
Salim said with a surprised look, "They have joined the battle. They joined a long time ago, but the fighting is in the city, so their artillery isn’t really needed. As for the tanks, some have been deployed, but part of them stayed behind to guard the camp, and the artillery hasn’t been used at all."
Gao Yang didn’t ask further questions. He had his own sources of intelligence, so after getting a brief overview from Salim, he made up his mind to personally fight this battle.
Why has the main force in Sana’a’s largest military camp remained inactive? It’s not just that the artillery is useless in the city as Salim said, but rather the current President Hadi is afraid to use them, because a significant portion of the soldiers in that camp are part of former President Saleh’s base.
So it’s not that they don’t want to use them, or that they don’t need them; rather, Hadi simply doesn’t dare use them. He’s afraid that once they’re let out, he won’t be able to rein them back in, or they might end up in the hands of the Houthis Armed Forces.
The situation inside the camp isn’t entirely clear, but the general picture is certainly not wrong.
Gao Yang looked at Rebrov and said, "Then let’s move our artillery position accordingly."
Rebrov nodded repeatedly, his face glowing as he said, "No problem, we have a plan. We can set up a position about three kilometers from the camp, closer for more effective fire support. If needed, it only takes a few minutes to move in and take over the artillery."
After quickly articulating this, Rebrov hit the table with his hand excitedly and said, "If necessary, we can set up the artillery right at the camp’s gate. The D30 can be used as direct-fire artillery, that’s not an issue."
Gao Yang tossed a pencil onto the map and said with a smile, "Then let’s get ready to move. We’ll head out at night and engage in a night battle."
Satan thrives in night battles. Although the Dagger Assault Team isn’t very adept at night combat, Gao Yang’s plan was to execute a precision raid to create a breach, follow up with the main force, and then completely take over. So he had to ensure he maximized Satan’s advantages rather than making considerations for the Dagger Assault Team.
As dusk fell, Satan and the Dagger Assault Team set out in full force, heading for the military camp in the south of the city.
The journey was neither peaceful nor easy, sometimes needing to take detours to avoid roads still engulfed in fierce battles. So while they set off at dusk, it was past ten at night when Gao Yang and his team finally arrived.
The camp was inside the city, and Gao Yang’s team was at the urban-rural junction, where Rebrov needed to establish his artillery position.
The artillerymen began to set up nervously. This time, the artillery wouldn’t execute a hit-and-run tactic but would continuously shell from one location because now Gao Yang had confirmed there were no enemy artillery threats to Rebrov’s team.
The battle was conducted in cooperation with the Houthis Armed Forces, who would provide a two-hundred-strong infantry unit to protect Satan’s artillery.
Seeing the artillery position fully deployed, Salim couldn’t help but remind Gao Yang, "I must remind you again, no matter what you seize in the camp, it’s ours. You have the right to use it, but the items are still ours!"
Gao Yang smiled and said, "My friend, do you think we’ll take those self-propelled artillery when we leave? They might be precious to you, but to me or my country..."
Before Gao Yang could finish, Salim already started smiling sheepishly because Gao Yang was correct. For Russia, regardless of how impoverished it might be, how could they possibly care about mere artillery pieces? The abandoned and discarded artillery Russia had would suffice to arm Yemen countless times over.
After the artillery position was set up, Satan immediately led the Dagger Assault Team towards the camp, while at the same time, part of the Houthis Armed Forces was also moving toward the camp. Since fighting started in Sana’a, the biggest battle yet was about to unfold.
Gao Yang’s team wasn’t the first to arrive, but the battle hadn’t started yet, because most of the Houthis Armed Forces weren’t adept at night combat. Furthermore, the Houthis soldiers had strict orders to join the fight only after Dagger Assault Team had created a breach.
They drove until they were less than a thousand mi from the camp gate. Gao Yang got out of the car, and Satan’s men quickly disembarked and stood behind him.
"A bit arrogant, aren’t we?"
Gao Yang chuckled and said that, but he felt no sense of caution over his arrogance. Instead, he said arrogantly, "There’s no special tactic, just hit hard and charge aggressively. We cover, Dagger clears the way, and naturally, others will follow once we open a path!"
After saying that, Gao Yang looked at Peter and Vorvitsky and said sternly, "The two of you lead the Dagger Assault Team. Your main task is to control anything useful to us once inside. Anyone who snatches from us gets shot!"
After speaking, Gao Yang twisted his neck, checked his watch, and suddenly said loudly, "Check equipment."
A familiar sound followed: the sound of cocking and loading weapons. No matter how experienced, some necessary preparations are indispensable.
Gao Yang felt extremely thrilled, not for the upcoming battle, but for the potential spoils they might seize.
"Activate night visions, move out!"
This time, Satan’s men were at the forefront, spreading out and running swiftly toward the military camp gate.
