Rebirth of Love: Jiang Ciyou's Counterattack Legend

Chapter 416 Returning to the old place, heart is elsewhere

Chapter 416 Returning to the old place, heart is elsewhere

The taxi Jiang Ciyou was riding in slowly drove to her destination. Along the way, her thoughts were like the street scenes passing by the window, chaotic and confused. Her heart was like being swept by a storm, full of wounds. Lu Jingchen's desperate eyes and angry shouts kept echoing in her mind, and the husband she was about to face also made her heart heavy as if filled with lead.

The taxi finally stopped at the door of her husband's house. It was a familiar yet strange house. She had spent a lot of time here, with laughter and tears. But now, all of this was painted with a layer of complex colors by time and experience. Jiang Ciyou took a deep breath, paid the fare, and slowly got out of the car.

She dragged her heavy steps towards the door, and every step she took seemed to exhaust all her strength. She raised her hand, hesitated for a moment, and finally knocked on the door. The door opened quickly, and her husband's familiar face appeared in front of her. His face was filled with a surprised smile, and his eyes were full of joy of regaining what he had lost.

"Ciyou, you're finally back!" the husband said excitedly, opening his arms to hug her.

Jiang Ciyou looked at her husband, but she didn't feel the expected joy in her heart. Her body stiffened slightly, and she didn't throw herself into her husband's arms naturally as usual. She just stood there quietly, with a complex emotion in her eyes, confusion, fatigue, and more of missing and guilt for Lu Jingchen.

The husband's arm was awkwardly hanging in the air. He noticed something was wrong with Jiang Ciyou. His smile gradually froze on his face, and a hint of doubt flashed across his eyes, but he quickly concealed it. He put down his arm and stepped aside to let Jiang Ciyou walk into the house.

Jiang Ciyou walked into the living room and was greeted by a familiar environment. The layout of the living room was still the same as before, the sofa, the coffee table, the paintings on the wall, everything had not changed, but Jiang Ciyou felt like a stranger, everything here made her feel an indescribable alienation.

Her husband followed her and asked with concern, "Ciyou, what's wrong with you? Are you too tired from the journey?"

Jiang Ciyou shook her head and said softly, "No, I'm just a little tired." She walked to the sofa and sat down slowly, her eyes unconsciously looking at the place where she and her husband used to sit together. Those memories flashed through her mind like movie clips, but now, these memories can no longer touch her deep emotions.

The husband sat next to her, carefully held her hand, and said, "Ciyou, I'm really happy that you're back. I know I did a lot of wrong things before, but I hope you can give me a chance and let us start over."

Jiang Ciyou's eyes were still somewhat wandering. She heard her husband's words, but they did not stir up much waves in her heart. She just said lightly, "Well, I understand."

The husband looked at Jiang Ciyou's cold reaction and felt a little anxious. He began to talk about his regrets: "Ciyou, you don't know how much I regretted my time abroad. I was blinded by the benefits and did something that hurt you. But after leaving you, I realized how important you are to me. I miss you every day. This time I came back, I just want to make up for the mistakes I made."

Jiang Ciyou listened quietly, but her thoughts drifted to Lu Jingchen. She thought of all the things Lu Jingchen had done for her, his warm company, his affectionate eyes, which formed a sharp contrast with her husband's words. She suddenly felt that her husband's words were a little empty, like a gust of wind, leaving nothing behind after it blew.

The husband kept talking, from his mistakes to his future plans, trying to give Jiang Ciyou hope of starting over. But Jiang Ciyou just listened mechanically, her heart was no longer in this room, and she was no longer by her husband's side.

"Ciyou, believe me, I will make you happy. We can be like before, or even better than before." The husband said a little excitedly. He held Jiang Ciyou's hand tightly, as if he could grasp their future in this way.

Jiang Ciyou gently pulled back her hand and said, "I'm a little tired, I want to rest first." She stood up and walked towards the bedroom. Her husband looked at her back, a hint of disappointment flashed in his eyes, but he still nodded and said, "Okay, you rest first."

Jiang Ciyou walked into the bedroom and closed the door. She leaned against the door and sighed deeply. Everything in the bedroom was still so familiar, the bed, the wardrobe, and the curtains they had picked together. But all of this made her feel a kind of oppressive atmosphere. She walked to the bed and sat down.

Lu Jingchen's face, his smile, his eyes, and every moment they were together kept appearing in her mind. She began to doubt whether her decision to return to her husband was the right one. She felt like she was stuck in a quagmire, and the more she struggled, the deeper she sank. She didn't know how to face her current life, nor how to face her husband.

She lay on the bed, looking at the ceiling, tears streaming down her face unconsciously. She covered her face with her hands, trying not to cry out loud. She knew that she had hurt Lu Jingchen, and now, she was not sure if she could accept her husband's return. Her heart was torn between two emotions, one was the nostalgia for the past, and the other was the reluctance to leave Lu Jingchen.

Time passed slowly in Jiang Ciyou's pain and confusion. In the evening, her husband knocked on the door gently, then opened the door and walked in. He saw Jiang Ciyou lying on the bed with red and swollen eyes, and he felt distressed.

"Ciyou, dinner is ready, you should get up and eat something." The husband said gently.

Jiang Ciyou sat up, wiped her tears, and said, "I'm not very hungry, you eat first."

The husband walked to the bed, sat next to her, and said, "Ciyou, I know you may still blame me in your heart, but how can you not eat like this? You have to take care of yourself."

Jiang Ciyou looked at her husband's concerned eyes and felt a little guilty. She knew that her husband cared about her, but her heart could not accept his care as before. She nodded and said, "Okay, I understand."

She followed her husband to the dining room, where the table was filled with the dishes she had loved to eat in the past. Her husband pulled out a chair for her to sit down, and then he sat down himself.

"Ciyou, try this. I made it specially for you." The husband picked up a piece of vegetable and put it in Jiang Ciyou's bowl.

Jiang Ciyou looked at the food in the bowl, but she had no appetite. She ate a few bites reluctantly and then put down her chopsticks.

"I'm done eating, you take your time." Jiang Ciyou said.

The husband saw that she only ate a little and felt a little worried. He said, "Ciyou, why did you eat so little? Is it because it doesn't suit your taste?"

Jiang Ciyou shook his head and said, "No, I'm just not very hungry."

After dinner, Jiang Ciyou returned to the bedroom. She sat in front of the window, looking at the night view outside, and her thoughts drifted back to Lu Jingchen. She didn't know how Lu Jingchen was doing now, whether he was still in pain. Her heart was full of guilt and reluctance. She hoped that Lu Jingchen could forget her as soon as possible and start a new life, but she also knew how slim this hope was.

She sat in front of the window for a long time, until late at night. Her heart was still restless, and she felt that her life had become a mess. She didn't know how to choose, whether to continue to start over with her husband, or to find the one she really loved. She knew that no matter what choice she made, she would face great pain and challenges.
