Chapter 273 Golden Egg (3)
Chapter 273 Golden Egg (3)
Harry said this and tentatively turned on the faucet by the sink. He was actually not sure about the authenticity of the advice Cedric gave him.
Originally, Harry was going to try it himself first and then tell Lamia the results, but everything that happened today really disrupted all his plans.
Lamia watched Harry's actions, put the golden egg aside, and squatted by the sink to help turn on the faucet.
These spigots dispensed various types of bubble baths mixed with hot water, but they were completely different from any bubble bath Harry had experienced before.
One of the faucets spewed pink and blue bubbles as big as footballs, another spewed crystal clear, dense and thick foam, which would surely support anyone who entered the pool to the surface and prevent them from sinking, and the third faucet spewed a fragrant purple mist that diffused over the water surface.
Harry was attracted by the taps, which he turned on and off. He especially admired the marvelous sight of one faucet emitting an arc of water that streaked across the surface of the water.
In a blink of an eye, the deep bathtub was filled with hot water, foam and bubbles. It was amazing how quickly such a large bathtub was filled.
"What now?" Ron asked.
They all noticed that the pool was full of water. Normal people would take off all their clothes and walk into the pool, after all, this was a place for bathing.
But they are not of the same gender, and even more awkwardly, they are of the same age. It is obviously impossible for them to take off all their clothes and take a bath together.
"Let me try first." Harry said, and stepped into the pool without taking off his clothes. The pool was very deep, and his feet could barely reach the bottom of the pool. Taking a bath with clothes on was one of the most uncomfortable things Harry had ever experienced.
Lamia handed the golden egg to Harry and said, "Maybe you can try to open it."
Harry reached out his arms, lifted the golden egg with his clammy hands, and cracked it open.
Suddenly, a shrill scream filled the bathroom, echoing and resonating between the marble walls, but the sound was still so inexplicable, and mixed with all the echoes, it was even more puzzling.
He snapped it shut, worried that the noise might attract Filch, since none of them were prefects.
Harry suddenly suspected that this was all Cedric's plan—just to embarrass him in front of Lamia.
At this moment, someone suddenly spoke above his head, scaring him so much that his soul left his body. The golden egg fell from his hand and rolled away on the floor of the bathroom with a clang.
Although Lamia and the others had just covered their ears, they still heard the voices and raised their heads to look in the direction of the sound.
"If I were you, I'd put it in water and try it."
Harry was so shocked that he swallowed several mouthfuls of bubbles. He stood up and spit out the bubbles. Only then did he see a sad-looking female ghost floating down and sitting on a dragon head with her legs crossed.
It was Moaning Myrtle, who was often heard crying in the drain of a bathroom on the second floor.
"Myrtle, could you please stop messing around? We're already in trouble!" Harry said irritably. His mouth was full of the taste of foam, which was really terrible.
"It's so sad, Harry Potter, it's been ages since we last met, hasn't it?" said Myrtle, picking at a knot on her chin disconsolately.
"Well, enough of that, I'll try putting the golden egg in water. Is that what Cedric Diggory did?"
"Yes, I saw it with my own eyes at night." Even though Myrtle had become a ghost, Lamia still saw shyness on her face.
"You actually come here at night to peek at the prefects taking a bath!" said Harry angrily.
"Sometimes, I'm picky about people, like that skinny Weasley. I've never seen him before," Myrtle said very mysteriously, "and I've never come out to talk to anyone before."
"I'm flattered," Harry said glumly.
Lamia had already picked up the golden egg that Harry had dropped and handed it to him, covering her eyes at the same time.
Harry then noticed that even though he was wearing clothes, they were soaked through and he wasn't wearing anything nearly the same.
"Ah!" Harry hid in the pool again in shame and anger, without even holding the golden egg, and fell directly into the water.
This time the golden egg did not scream, but instead made a gurgling song. The song came from under the water, and Harry could not hear what it was singing at all.
"You need to get your head in the water," Myrtle said, seeming to enjoy telling him what to do. "Go ahead."
Harry took a deep breath and was about to dive into the water when a pair of hands held his neck. It was Lamia.
"Lamia..." Harry was about to ask what was wrong when Lamia blocked his mouth.
Lamia listened carefully to the sounds underwater. With her hearing ability, there was no need for Harry to dive into the water.
"Did you hear that?" Harry asked after a while, when the singing stopped.
"Yes, it's the singing." Lamia repeated it. The singing seemed to tell them to go somewhere where their treasure was hidden.
"You annoying guy!" Myrtle suddenly cursed at Lamia.
No one present understood what she meant, but no one cared anymore. She was just a poor ghost.
"We have to look for those people who can't make any noise on the ground..." Harry said slowly, "Hmm... who could it be?" Harry looked at the bathroom and thought.
"If the sound can only be heard underwater, then it must belong to some underwater animal." Hermione came over from behind and she also heard what Lamia repeated to Harry.
"Ah, Digory thought so too," said Myrtle. "He hid himself there, talking to himself, and pondered over it for a long, long time... and nearly all the bubbles disappeared..."
"Underwater..." Harry said slowly, "Myrtle, what other animals live in the lake besides the giant squid?"
“Oh, there are all kinds,” she said. “I go to the lake sometimes, and sometimes I have no choice and someone flushes the toilet when I’m not expecting it.”
Harry tried not to think of Myrtle being flushed down the drain and into the lake with the toilet waste.
He said, "Well, what's there that makes a human voice? Wait a minute—"
