Chapter 319 Doubt (1)

Chapter 319 Doubt (1)

At this moment, Snape strode forward, past Dumbledore, lifting the left sleeve of his robes as he walked. He held his arm out to Fudge, who recoiled in horror.

"See it," Snape said hoarsely, "see it—the Dark Mark. Not as distinct as it was an hour ago, when it was all burnt black, but you can still see it."

"Every Death Eater bears a mark from Voldemort. It's a way for Death Eaters to identify each other, and it's also a signal for Voldemort to summon them back to him."

"When he touches a Death Eater's mark, we must Apparate immediately and appear beside him. Over the past year, this mark has become more and more obvious, as has Karkaroff's."

"Why do you think Karkaroff escaped tonight? We both felt the Mark burning. We both knew he was back."

"Karkaroff feared that Voldemort would retaliate against him. He had betrayed many of his fellow Death Eaters, and surely no one would welcome him back among them."

Fudge stepped back from Snape again, shaking his head constantly, as if he had not heard what Snape said at all. His eyes were wide, obviously frightened by the ugly mark on Snape's arm.

Lamia hadn't seen all the Death Eaters clearly that night, so she wasn't sure if Snape had discovered Tom.

But if Snape had discovered Tom, then Dumbledore would have known it long ago, so why would he still ask himself?

Lamia didn't understand. Was Dumbledore waiting for her to admit it herself?

Then Fudge looked up at Dumbledore and whispered, "I don't know what games you and your people are playing, Dumbledore, but I have heard enough. I don't want to say anything more. I will contact you tomorrow, Dumbledore, to discuss how this school should be run. I must return to the Ministry of Magic."

He strode out the door with a look of being on the run.

"Wait a minute, Fudge, the Triwizard Tournament prize money should be given to this child." said Professor McGonagall.

"Your prize," Fudge said briefly, pausing at the doorway before quickly returning. He pulled a large bag of gold coins from his pocket and tossed it into Lamia's arms. "One thousand Galleons. There should have been a prize-giving ceremony, but under the circumstances..."

He put his bowler hat on his head and walked out of the room, slamming the door behind him.

As soon as he left, Dumbledore turned and looked at Lamia.

"I still have some work to do," he said. "Lamia, you are someone we can trust, right?" Dumbledore looked at Lamia kindly, but his eyes showed that he was unquestionable.

"Of course, sir." Lamia put the gold Galleon on the ground, looked at Dumbledore and said without any guilt.

"Very well, I need to send a letter to Arthur," said Dumbledore. "We must immediately inform all those who can be persuaded by us to see the situation clearly. Arthur can contact those in the Ministry who are not as short-sighted as Cornelius."

"Okay," Lamia said, picking up a large bag of Galleons from the ground. "I'll go now."

"That will be very good," said Dumbledore. "Tell him what has happened and say that I shall be in direct contact shortly, but he must proceed with caution. If Fudge thinks I am meddling with the Ministry—"

"I understand, sir," Lamia said, handing the Galleons to Professor McGonagall. "Professor, please keep them for me."

Professor McGonagall nodded and put the Galleons into her robes. "Be sure to be safe and come back as soon as you complete the task!" She looked at Lamia worriedly, then looked at Dumbledore. "Why don't I go?"

"No, Minerva, you'll attract too much attention. Fudge will notice," said Dumbledore gravely. "Besides, Minerva," Dumbledore continued, "I want to see Hagrid in my office, and - Madame Maxime - if she's willing."

Professor McGonagall nodded and left without another word.

Snape left a moment later, making no sound as he passed by Lamia.

"Wait a moment, Severus, could you please go to Professor Moody's office? You can take Winky down to the kitchen where she is staying. I think Dobby will take care of her for us."

"Okay." Snape left without looking back. Only Lamia and Dumbledore were left at the scene. In the end, Dumbledore left first.

Lamia didn't plan to use Floo powder to go to the Ministry of Magic. It would be too obvious. Dumbledore asked her to do this because he didn't want Fudge to find out.

After thinking for a long time, Lamia decided to fly there by herself. Although it was a bit tiring, it was more concealed and saved time.

After successfully arriving at the Ministry of Magic, Lamia secretly followed a member of the Ministry who came to work and sneaked in. The place was filled with scattered documents and busy wizards. Lamia almost immediately saw the red-haired middle-aged man who stood out among them.

Arthur was pacing back and forth anxiously, and Lamia was beside him, transforming back into human form when no one was paying attention. "Mr. Weasley."

Arthur was startled. His first reaction was to take out his wand and point it in the direction of Lamia's voice, but he put it back the next second. "Lamia, why are you here?"

Arthur brought Lamia to a deserted place where most of the officials were handling official business elsewhere.

"Lamia, does Dumbledore want to talk to me about something?" Arthur asked.

"Mr. Weasley, Dumbledore asked me to give you this letter." Lamia took out the letter that Dumbledore gave her from her arms. It was addressed to Arthur Weasley himself.

Arthur didn't say much, but opened the letter very quickly. After a quick glance, his expression gradually became serious.

"Lamia, I know about this. Is there anything else?"

"Dumbledore needs you to inform the other wizards about this," Lamia said simply.

But Arthur's expression became strange, "Is that all?" He looked at Lamia, not knowing what he was thinking.

"Yes," Lamia said.

Arthur left quickly, and before leaving, he took Lamia to the back door of the Ministry of Magic. There was no one there, but there was a simple little compartment next to it with only a dilapidated fireplace.

"You can use the Floo powder to leave here. You will go directly to the Burrow. Molly should have gone back by now. She will take care of you." Arthur said firmly and did not give Lamia a chance to choose. He was in a hurry to deal with things and did not have much time.

But his meaning was very clear. He wanted Lamia to return to the Burrow instead of Hogwarts. Did Dumbledore write something else in the letter? Why did he look so strange after reading it?

Lamia did not use the Floo powder, but returned to Hogwarts along the same route. Dumbledore did not tell her the truth. He did not believe her. It turned out that he arranged for her to do this just to get her away.

Lamia was in a complicated mood. She had always known that Dumbledore was a very wise old man, but she didn't expect him to be so smart. She had only concealed a little thing about Tom, but Dumbledore had already guessed it.
