Chapter 57 A Night of Chaos

In the moment of crisis, Li Wei felt that he had unleashed his full potential.

He leaped forward and kicked the burly man in the back.

The burly man lost his balance and fell to the ground. Li Wei seized the opportunity to step forward, pinned him to the ground, and took the iron rod from him.

"Take them away quickly!" Li Wei shouted to the catwoman.

When Catwoman saw him, her tense expression finally relaxed a little: "You're here. It's too messy here."

Li Wei nodded, took out handcuffs and cuffed the big man's hands behind his back. "Take the children and leave first, be careful of the poison."

The catwoman nodded, then protected the child and left without any formalities.

"You should also be careful."

Just then, a loud roar came from afar.

Li Wei looked up and saw Batman driving the Batmobile through the chaotic crowd, heading towards him.

As the sonic device on the roof of the Batmobile was activated, low-frequency sound waves, invisible to the naked eye, spread out.

The chaotic crowd quieted down a bit, and everyone's eyes became somewhat confused.

Because Li Wei was relatively far away, he recovered quickly.

"Evacuate the public according to the marked routes!"

Li Wei directed the still-conscious police officers to guide residents to a safe isolation zone.

An evacuation operation, a race against time, officially began in the chaotic slums.

After running for a while, they soon arrived at a crossroads.

Here, they finally saw the roadblocks set up by Maroni's men.

The roadblock consisted of abandoned cars and barbed wire, with several gangsters armed and guarding behind it.

It was clear that these gangsters came prepared; everyone was wearing gas masks.

However, judging from the two guys tied up in the corner, it's not hard to guess that the gas masks were ineffective against the poison gas.

Realizing something was wrong, Li Wei led his officers to hide behind a garbage truck on the side of the road.

Even with the thickened carriage blocking the bullets, Li Wei could even see the sparks that flew up when the bullets hit the carriage.

Seeing that the other party was stubborn, Li Wei didn't hesitate and pulled out his gun to engage in a fierce gunfight with the gangsters.

Bullets whizzed past, sparks flying as they hit the walls.

Li Wei knew he couldn't linger here any longer; every minute of delay would result in more citizens being harmed.

He surveyed the terrain briefly and discovered a narrow alley to the left of the roadblock, which should allow him to get around to the back of the gangsters.

"Follow me!" Li Wei winked at the police officers beside him, signaling two more people to come with him.

The remaining officers continued to return fire and draw enemy attention.

Li Wei, along with two police officers, quietly slipped into the alley, which was dark, damp, and filled with garbage.

Every now and then, cockroaches the size of a finger would crawl around on the garbage, making Li Wei feel disgusted.

They moved forward cautiously and quickly circled around to behind the roadblock.

Through the alleyway entrance, the bastards were clearly visible.

"Fire!" Li Wei shouted and charged out.

Upon hearing his order, the officers immediately opened fire and suppressed Maroni's men.

Maroni's men were caught off guard by the attack from behind and immediately lost their composure.

They hurriedly turned around to fight back, but it was too late.

In the chaos, some people were shot and fell to the ground, howling in pain. The rest quickly lost the will to resist.

Li Wei and his officers acted swiftly, quickly subduing the remaining men and handcuffing them to the roadblocks they had set up.

"Clear the roadblocks and continue evacuating the people!" Li Wei ordered.

Police officers immediately began clearing roadblocks and evacuating the crowd.

Before Li Wei could even catch his breath, Batman's voice came through his communicator again.

"Levy, Klein is in his factory in the slums, mass-producing fear toxins, preparing to further escalate the chaos!"

Li Wei's heart tightened: "I'm coming right away, you must be careful!"

With such a huge scene today, if Batman gets poisoned, they don't need to worry about Klein anymore; saving their own lives would be the greatest achievement.

After arranging the evacuation of the scene, Li Wei led several police officers towards the factory that Batman had mentioned.

He knew he had to stop Klein as soon as possible, or the consequences would be dire.

"Gordon, how's it going on your end?" Levi asked Gordon on the way to the factory.

Gordon's voice soon came through the walkie-talkie, "I've established a preliminary buffer zone here, but it could be breached at any moment!"

He was leading his officers to build a solid defensive line at the border between the slums and the midtown area, using police cars and makeshift roadblocks to intercept the chaotic crowds trying to rush to the outskirts.

"You take men to reinforce the cordon. We can use police cars and roadblocks to form three lines of defense. We absolutely cannot allow the chaos to spread to the central district!"

Li Wei quickly advised over the walkie-talkie, "Be careful to screen the public and prevent those affected by the toxin from infiltrating!"

That last sentence is actually somewhat redundant, as there was no police force available to screen the public at that time.

"Thanks for the advice, buddy!" Gordon's voice carried a hint of weariness. "You be careful too, those sons of bitches!"

Hearing Gordon say that, Levi found it somewhat amusing.

For Gordon, who is usually stern and unsmiling, to swear like that, it seems that Maroni and Klein really angered him.

After hanging up with Gordon, Levi immediately contacted Batman: "Batman, how's it going on your end?"

"I'm keeping an eye on Klein," Batman's voice came through the communicator. "He just left the factory on a black horse. I don't know what he's up to."

"That bastard!" Levi's eyes sharpened. "I bet he's planning to go out and create panic to satisfy his twisted psychology!"

Li Wei made this guess because he analyzed Klein's psychology in the movie.

This guy has a strong desire for control and destruction—he enjoys finding pleasure in chaos.

"Leave it to me," Batman replied succinctly, the sound of wind whistling through the communicator.
