Chapter 34 Search and Rescue
Chapter 34 Search and Rescue
Di Xing nodded
So, Di Xing got to witness the transformation of the fire engine man once again. The dual cannons on the shoulders of the pulse firefighter fired, the two jets of water first concentrating in the middle to create a path, and then sweeping to both sides to widen the path further.
The firefighters led the way, with Di Xing close behind. Reaching the gate, one of them grabbed it and lifted it with all his might. The gate, seemingly incredibly heavy, managed to open only a gap of about half a meter.
Di Xing quickly crawled inside and then gave an OK sign to the outside. Only after seeing Di Xing's sign did Ace order the fire truck crew to lower the gate.
Upon entering the gate, Di Xing found the power plant's alarms blaring, and the red warning lights turning the entire plant into a hellish scene. Di Xing took a deep breath and quickly ran towards the control room.
He didn't encounter any significant obstacles along the way; the card sprites he saw were mostly harmless creatures like [Electric Katydid] and [Electric Goldfish]. The only slightly threatening one, [Giant Thunderball], was pinned to the wall by the bone spikes of the White Bone Princess he conjured.
Soon, Di Xing arrived safely at the control room door, but arcs of electricity were visibly crackling on it. If you put your hand on it, it would probably be medium-rare in the next second.
He quickly raised the terminal and contacted Ace. The terminal immediately projected a screen, on which appeared Ace's resolute face.
"How's it going, Di Xing? Did you find the control room?"
"Di Xing, are you alright?" On the screen, Ai Xiao pushed past her brother and anxiously asked about Di Xing's condition.
"I'm fine. I've reached the control room door, but the door is currently electrified, and I'm too scared to touch it."
"Let me check the gate," Ace instructed.
So Di Xing manipulated the terminal to transmit the image of the gate to Ace.
Ace stroked his chin. "This isn't right. How can the control room have such high power? Could it be some kind of card sprite?" He thought for a moment longer. "Anyway, you should come out first, Di Xing. The situation in here is very strange. Staying in there might be dangerous for you."
"And what about the child?"
"We can't confirm if he's inside yet. Firefighter's code: ensure your own safety before rescuing anyone. I'm responsible for your safety. Get out now, I'll open the door for you."
Di Xing hesitated for a moment, "The card sprites I saw on the first floor were all things like [Electric Katydid] and [Electric Goldfish], which don't have much attack power. Let me look around here a bit more. I am, after all, a graphics card engineer."
Ace was silent for a moment. "Alright, you can only stay on the first floor. If you encounter danger, run away quickly and send us a message. We'll come to your aid as soon as possible."
Di Xing readily agreed and began searching the first floor. Aside from the blinding lights causing him some eye strain, he was unharmed but found nothing.
Then he came to the stairwell leading to the lower level. Standing at the top of the stairs, he felt as if someone was calling him, and the scent was very familiar.
Most importantly, he saw what appeared to be a footprint on one of the steps. The footprint was very small, only half a footprint, and could not be confirmed as a footprint; it could just be dirt or dust.
Di Xing knew that if he reported this to Ace now, he would definitely insist that he go out first, because that was the right thing to do; one should ensure their own life before saving others. However, the child might have been affected by the tremor he had caused...
Di Xing gritted his teeth and began searching downwards. As he descended to the basement level, the surrounding lights dimmed, but the familiar feeling grew stronger and stronger.
He followed his instincts and kept moving forward. Some stronger lightning-type card spirits began to appear around him, so he had to summon the White Bone Princess again to clear the obstacles for him.
The bone spikes summoned by the Bone Princess easily pierced through the elves, but were not fatal; they merely immobilized them.
With the help of the White Bone Princess, they made their way to the third basement level, where a massive generator roared before them. At that moment, the heart of the city seemed to groan in agony.
That familiar aura seemed to be groaning along with the engine. Di Xing quickened his pace and finally found a white spherical shield in an inconspicuous room in the southeast corner of the engine. This was an electromagnetic shield.
Inside the room, a [Battery Man - Single Type 3] card spirit was in defensive stance, surrounded by the magic card Electromagnetic Shield. Behind it, a little boy was fast asleep.
"Was that you calling me?" Di Xing looked at the [Battery Man - Single Type 3], and countless memories flooded back.
That was his first encounter with Yu-Gi-Oh! He remembered it was when he was in junior high school, and he went to the corner store to buy batteries for his mini 4WD car. He saw bags of cards hanging on the door of the shop next door.
It just so happened that the card depicted Battery Man, and out of curiosity, he bought a pack. That was the beginning of his complicated relationship with Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Electromagnetic Man became his first deck.
Many years later, he learned that the store was selling counterfeit gift cards, but that didn't stop him and his friends from having a lot of fun.
Now, seeing the real [Battery Man - Single Type 3] Kaling before him, he couldn't help but feel a pang of emotion. It was as if his childhood self, the one who used to hold the card and laugh foolishly, was appearing before him again. It felt like a lifetime ago. "So that's why this aura feels so familiar," he thought.
[Battery Man - Single Type 3] could not make a sound, but simply nodded in affirmation.
"Alright, switch to attack mode and deactivate your electromagnetic shield. I'll take this child away." But Dan Sanxing shook his head.
"What's wrong?" Di Xing asked, somewhat puzzled.
Just then, a wolf howl came from outside the door, and a giant wolf with a purple mane and lightning in its mouth rushed to the doorway. Di Xing and Princess White Bone were both startled and instantly hid behind the electromagnetic shield.
The Single Type-3 looked at the man and the corpse with a hint of exasperation, and could only continue to maintain its shield. The giant wolf pounced on the [Battery Man - Single Type-3] without hesitation.
But it was repelled by the electromagnetic shield. The giant wolf's eyes, brimming with lightning, stared intently at [Battery Man - Single Type III]. It launched several more attacks, all of which failed. After a long while, it let out a frustrated howl and turned to leave.
"Was that the Thunder of the Great Wolf just now?"
"Bingo, correct answer, but unfortunately no reward," a emotionless electronic voice came from the terminal. For some reason, it somehow gave off a slightly sarcastic vibe, making you want to punch it a couple of times.
"Thunderous Wolf, a Dire Beast of the Breaking Army Level"
"Breaking Army level!? How could a small power plant have a Breaking Army level beast?" The terminal ignored him and continued speaking.
