Chapter 142 Overnutrition
Chapter 142 Overnutrition
Shu Yun laughed and said, "Is it really that exaggerated?"
"Don't you believe me?" Tian Xiufen had been sitting with Shu Yun for quite a while. She saw that Shu Yun had sewn one edge of the piece of fabric in her hand, but even that edge was crooked and the stitches were sparse and dense. She couldn't help but laugh and said, "If you're not good at needlework, don't do it. It's time-consuming and laborious. If you really can't do it, go find Shi Yan. She's good at needlework."
Shu Yun: "My mother-in-law sewed a lot of little clothes for me when she was here. I thought I'd make a few myself, as a way of showing my love for my child."
Tian Xiufen nodded. "That's true."
As the two were talking, they heard the creaking of a wooden door next door. It opened and then closed again. When Tian Xiufen heard that it was her own yard, she rushed out to see what was going on and saw Gou Dan carrying a shovel and walking out.
Tian Xiufen, hands on her hips, asked, "Where are you going?"
Upon hearing this, Gou Dan ran off at lightning speed, saying, "We'll go to the back mountain and be right back."
Shu Yun asked curiously, "What are they planning to do by taking shovels to the back mountain?"
Tian Xiufen: "Hey, I don't know where I heard it from a while ago, that the area behind the mountain was originally a bandit stronghold. Later, our People's Liberation Army went up the mountain to suppress the bandits and wiped them out completely. The bandits had plundered a lot of the people's wealth in the area, but most of it was taken away. However, some people say that some of it was hidden by the bandits, and the People's Liberation Army searched several times but couldn't find it."
Shu Yun continued, "So they went treasure hunting?"
Tian Xiufen nodded, "Yes, I was thinking that once we find them, we could give them a medal of honor."
Oh, so it's about honor. I have to say, even kids these days have such high awareness.
As they were talking, a car horn sounded outside. Tian Xiufen got up to say goodbye, "Your Xiao Gu is back, so I'll be going now."
Gu Jun asked the military unit to pick up a jeep, which took Shu Yun to the military hospital for a prenatal checkup first, and then to the city.
The military hospital was nearby, just a few minutes' drive away. Gu Jun carried a large bag in one hand and helped Shu Yun out of the car with the other.
Shu Yun was already familiar with the inspection process and had done it several times, so it didn't take her long to complete.
After seeing that she had finished drawing blood, Gu Jun immediately took out some warm milk and biscuits from his bag. "The test results will take a while. Would you like to eat something first?"
Since Shu Yun's morning sickness subsided during her pregnancy, her appetite has increased day by day, and she often complains of being hungry. Therefore, Gu Jun always carries some cookies, candies, or similar items in his pocket, just in case.
Gu Jun brought milk biscuits that he bought specially from the Overseas Chinese Store. They tasted similar to the old brand Youguan that he used to eat. As soon as the packaging was opened, there was a rich milky aroma. The biscuits were crispy, delicious, and not filling.
Thinking this, Shu Yun's stomach, which had already eaten breakfast, couldn't help but rumble a few times. "Give me some."
Gu Jun handed her the biscuit, while he held a glass of milk in his own hand. Shu Yun took a bite of the biscuit and a sip of milk, doubling the milky flavor. She ate with great pleasure, leaning against Gu Jun, her double chin peeking out.
Feeling sleepy after eating, Shu Yun leaned her head against Gu Jun and dozed off. She had cramped her leg the night before and neither of them had slept well. Just as Shu Yun was about to fall asleep, the report came out.
The doctor looked at the report, then glanced at Shu Yun, then looked at the report again, making both Shu Yun and Shu Yun very anxious.
Gu Jun asked, "Doctor, what were the test results?"
The doctor glanced at the pregnant woman's rosy, round face. "There's nothing seriously wrong, but your belly is quite big. Do you exercise every day?"
Shu Yun replied, "Uh, does taking a walk every day count?"
Doctor: "How long will it take?"
Shu Yun thought for a moment, "About ten minutes?"
Doctor: "That's definitely not enough. You should walk for at least an hour every day. I know you're pregnant and walking is inconvenient for you, but the baby is too big. It will harm the pregnant woman's body. You still need to exercise more."
Gu Jun: "Okay, okay, we'll exercise when we get back. Is everything alright now? Is there anything else we need to do besides exercise?"
The doctor handed the test results back to him, saying, "It was discovered early, so as long as you keep up with the exercise routine, there shouldn't be any major problems."
As she spoke, she noticed the large bag slung over Gu Jun's shoulder, revealing milk, candy, and biscuits inside. She paused, then asked, "Are all these things in your bag for your loved one?"
Gu Jun nodded. "Yes, she's pregnant now, so she gets hungry quickly."
Doctor: "You can't eat too much either. You need to keep up with your exercise and control your food intake. Don't overeat after exercising, or it won't be effective."
In the 1970s, most people were still struggling to have enough to eat. Most pregnant women were not getting enough nutrition, and it was rare to see pregnant women who were overnourished. Seeing that Shu Yun had a rosy complexion and bright, spirited eyes, she knew that she was taking good care of herself. Her tone softened considerably, and she told the couple a lot of things to pay attention to.
Gu Jun helped Shu Yun out of the clinic. Shu Yun glanced at the large bag on Gu Jun's shoulder and thought to herself: Well, he's going to have to lose weight.
Seeing this, Gu Jun thought Shu Yun was hungry again, so he quickly closed the bag to prevent Shu Yun from seeing it, saying, "You just ate cookies not long ago, you're not allowed to eat anymore."
"Fine, I won't eat then." Anyway, Shu Yun had just eaten and wasn't hungry, but she was quickly proven wrong. Her stomach betrayed her; her stretched stomach grew hungry very quickly, and her stomach rumbled uncomfortably. "Gu Jun~ I'm a little hungry again."
Gu Jun, unyielding and impartial, moved the bag further away from Shu Yun, saying, "You just ate cookies not long ago, eat them later."
Shu Yun persisted: "Can I have just one piece? Just one piece."
Gu Jun focused on driving and refused without hesitation, "No."
Shu Yun pouted, "The doctor clearly said it should be in moderation, but now you're cutting off my food supply. You're being too domineering."
Shu Yun was unhappy. She pressed half of her face against the car window and looked at the scenery outside without saying a word. Gu Jun couldn't help but glance to the side and saw Shu Yun's chubby cheeks. He compromised and said, "Then you can eat half a piece of dried fruit first."
Shu Yun shook her head, "I'll eat later."
Her temper flared up quickly but subsided just as fast. Knowing that Gu Jun was doing it for her own good and for the sake of the baby in her womb, she recovered after a short while of feeling upset.
As the car entered the city and drove through familiar alleys, Shu Yun was filled with a myriad of emotions.
Gu Jun slowed down the car. "Want to get out and take a look?"
Shu Yun looked up at the tenement building. The door to the room where the Shu family used to live was tightly closed and sealed off, so she couldn't go in. There was no point in going down to take a look, so she shook her head and said, "Let's go."
Gu Jun rubbed Shu Yun's head and continued driving to a desolate mountain in the suburbs outside the city, where her parents were buried.
