Chapter 365 The Hidden Vortex
Chapter 365 The Hidden Vortex
Lin Chuyue stood there, her heart pounding. The man before her was like a ticking time bomb, ready to ignite a greater conflict at any moment. His words echoed in her mind—the fate of the Gu family was no longer in their hands; this situation seemed no longer under her and Li Zhanchuan's control.
Her thoughts were in turmoil. She glanced back at Li Zhanchuan and found that his expression remained calm, but a hint of unease flickered in his deep eyes. Even though he always appeared cold and ruthless, Lin Chuyue knew at this moment that he was not as carefree as he seemed.
That pressure also weighed on her shoulders.
"What exactly do you want?" Lin Chuyue finally couldn't help but ask, her voice trembling slightly, but mostly driven by reason. She knew that if she couldn't figure out what was happening before her today, she wouldn't be able to control her own destiny.
The man merely sneered, his eyes revealing an unfathomable depth: "You think it's all just Shen Fang's conspiracy? No, Shen Fang is merely a small pawn on the chessboard. The true mastermind is far behind."
"Who?" Li Zhanchuan suddenly spoke, his tone carrying an undeniable threat. "If you dare to stir up this storm, don't blame me for being impolite."
"Don't you understand?" The man's eyes were cold, and a playful smile appeared on his lips. "The person who truly controls all of this is someone you can't even imagine."
Lin Chuyue's heart skipped a beat. She suddenly realized that what was happening behind all this might be far beyond her control. She took a deep breath, suppressing her fear, and calmly asked, "Are you threatening us?"
The man didn't answer, but simply smiled: "A threat? No, I'm just giving you a warning. You have two paths—continue to wallow in your own web until you're completely swallowed up; or stand with me and shatter this whole mess."
Lin Chuyue's heart skipped a beat, and her gaze involuntarily fell on Li Zhanchuan. She dared not make a decision lightly, because she knew that this man's words were not unfounded. The power he represented was beyond their current ability to contend with.
A complex light flashed in Li Zhanchuan's eyes. Just when Lin Chuyue thought he would remain silent, he suddenly spoke: "If you can give us more information, perhaps we will consider cooperating with you."
The man's smile faltered slightly, seemingly surprised that Li Zhanchuan would accept his proposal so readily. He stared at Li Zhanchuan, remained silent for a moment, and then nodded: "Since you put it that way, then I'll give you another chance. Our cooperation can prevent more unnecessary harm. Your enemies are not just Shen Fang, far more than that. Your future has already been controlled by those with ulterior motives."
"Are you telling the truth?" Lin Chuyue asked in a low voice, a question she had never felt before rising in her mind. "Whom do you represent? What do you want?"
The man paused for a moment, seemingly weighing his options. Finally, he spoke in a slightly cold tone: "I represent a part of the Gu family's interests that has never been disclosed in the past, a side you don't know about. Everyone you've come into contact with has been chosen; they are all pawns in a specific network of relationships."
He paused, as if recalling some unpleasant past: "Your parents, even your relatives, have long been controlled by certain people. All your efforts are nothing more than a game set up by these people."
This news made Lin Chuyue's heart clench; she could hardly believe every word she heard. Her father, Lin Zhengguo, and the Gu family had always been the pillar of support she relied on, but now, was such a conspiracy hidden behind all of this?
Her mind was in complete chaos, almost unbearable. She turned to look at Li Zhanchuan, only to see his gaze sharpen as he seemed to be processing the information for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure.
"If you really have the ability to change all of this, then why didn't you tell us sooner?" Li Zhanchuan asked calmly, with a hint of provocation in his tone. "Everything you've said not only confuses us, but also forces us to re-examine your motives."
The man smiled slightly, his gaze deep as the sea, as if he could see through Li Zhanchuan's thoughts: "Do you think I'm just someone who speaks casually? You may seem to be in high positions, but you're actually already in a framework set up by others. The only choices I give you are to cooperate, or become the next Shen Fang."
Lin Chuyue felt a sharp pain in her heart. She knew all too well what Shen Fang's fate would be. Her entire plan seemed to collapse in an instant. She thought she was in control of the situation, but now she realized that she was nothing more than an insignificant pawn on the chessboard.
Her gaze fell on Li Zhanchuan again, almost instinctively, she wanted to find answers from him. However, Li Zhanchuan's face remained cold and indifferent, as if none of this concerned him.
But Lin Chuyue knew that the impending storm was no longer a game for one person, or even just for two. She knew that if she didn't cooperate with this man, everything she had would be destroyed.
"What exactly do you want?" Her voice was low, but carried an undeniable firmness.
A cold smile curled at the corner of the man's lips: "What I want is not just your cooperation, but your complete surrender."
