Chapter 1137: I’m Going to Die
Walking through the Dragon Palace, Pei Yan couldn’t help but be captivated by the sights before him. Compared to the solemn grandeur of the Demon Race palaces and the pursuit of ultimate perfection in the Daoist Realm’s Immortal Palace with its carved beams and painted pillars, the Dragon Palace of the Spirit Monster Plane might seem simple. However, if asked which of these places Pei Yan preferred, he would undoubtedly choose here.Growing up in a big city, children are no longer surprised by the human architecture’s intricacy and opulence. Instead, it is the buildings that perfectly blend with nature, returning to simplicity, that pique his interest. As far as Pei Yan could see, most structures in the Dragon Palace are formed by trees growing naturally. Archways and corridors are dense with vibrant leaves of shrubs, while stone buildings were occasionally covered with various flowers, grass, and butterflies fluttering up and down, creating interesting contrasts.
Water columns cascade down from the cliffs high above, like a galaxy pouring down, into a vast pond at the courtyard’s center. The mist created by this in the sunlight forms a rainbow that hangs above the pond and has lingered for a long time. The fresh and slightly fragrant flowers, unknown to Pei Yan, growing in the pond make him revel in the scenery. Compared to the artificial hills and waters in the Daoist Realm, this naturally formed landscape is far more refreshing and immersive.
Following Salafam’s lead, they passed through the vast Dragon Palace. Their arrival caused quite a stir, perhaps due to a prior directive from the Dragon King. The curious Dragon Race dared not approach but could only hide between the corridor’s pillars, secretly observing Pei Yan and the others, whispering among themselves.
Pei Yan was accustomed to such scenes and took no offense. It was the moment Garbage jumped off the carriage and began running around excitedly. Initially, Pei Yan’s words had some effect, but as they ventured deeper into the Dragon Palace, Garbage treated Pei Yan’s scolding as mere noise. At one point, it leaped into the pond, turning the entire pool of flowers upside down, causing the fish within to scatter madly, then jumped out of the pond, splashing Pei Yan and Salafam with water before darting off again. It wasn’t until Garbage lifted its leg, preparing to mark the corridor’s pillar when Pei Yan finally caught up, fuming. Ignoring any concerns of offending the Ancestral God’s dignity in front of a slew of curious and blushing Dragon Race women witnessing this, Pei Yan conjured a dog chain and secured it around Garbage’s neck, calming the overly excited creature. He then dragged the reluctant Garbage back to Salafam’s side.
"Huff! Huff! Sorry, I didn’t mean any disrespect to the Dragon Realm or the Ancestral God. I really had no other choice." Panting, Pei Yan dragged the equally breathless Garbage before Salafam, apologizing.
"Uh, I understand! I understand! This is just one of those unavoidable situations!" Had he not witnessed the entire scene, Salafam would hardly believe that Pei Yan, fierce and majestic in battle, could appear so disheveled. With this thought, he could only suppress his laughter, responding awkwardly.
Thus, led by Salafam, Pei Yan dragged the sulking Garbage step by step into the depths of the Dragon Palace. After passing a gorge naturally formed within the palace, Salafam stopped at the exit, gestured lightly ahead, and smiled: "Beyond this point, I am not qualified to enter. You should proceed directly inside. The Ancestral God has been expecting you."
"Oh, thank you!" Pei Yan bowed in gratitude to Salafam for guiding him, then, accompanied by Garbage, they exited the gorge. After traversing a long winding path that ascended, Pei Yan heard the sound of streaming water and uncovered the vines blocking the road’s end, illuminating the scene before him.
"The mountain seems endless, yet here is another village beyond the shade of willows!" Pei Yan couldn’t help but exclaim, seeing the picturesque landscape like a paradise beyond the exit.
"Come, enter!"
From deep within the cave came a deep, aged voice. Since entering the gorge, Garbage had restrained its mischievous behavior, showing a slight disheartened demeanor. Upon hearing this voice, Garbage instinctively shrank back. Seeing this, Pei Yan crouched, petted its head, and soothed it before leading him inside.
"Junior Pei Yan of the Foundation Plane, pays respects to the esteemed Ancestral God!" In the valley’s center, an elder sat cross-legged, with a beam of sunlight streaming through a crevice above, falling precisely upon him. Eyes closed, the elder seemed to relish this moment of tranquility. From the aura, Pei Yan discerned his identity: the Master of Origin, Ancestral God of the Spirit Monster Plane. Undoing the chain around Garbage’s neck, he led it forward to pay respects.
"You’ve come several days later than agreed, you know. Any later and I might have thought you didn’t appreciate this plane’s Power of Origin." The Ancestral God slowly opened his eyes, teasing Pei Yan, who, upon showing an embarrassed look and attempting to explain, was motioned to sit as the elder spoke: "No worries, I understand you have more pressing matters than an old hermit like me. I’m just glad you came! Have a seat!"
After speaking, his gaze shifted from Pei Yan and landed on Garbage beside him. Seeing this, Pei Yan quickly crouched down to pet Garbage’s back, whispering in its ear: "Go, go to him—that’s your dad."
Garbage showed more fear than intimacy towards this "father." After Pei Yan’s continuous urging, Garbage gazed at the elder before him, his eyes filled with reverence but also slight grievance. It wasn’t until the elder beckoned with an outstretched hand that Garbage cautiously, step by step, moved toward him. Once the elder embraced its neck, Garbage submissively bowed at the elder’s feet, resting its head on his lap, yielding to the elder’s gentle caresses.
This peculiar father and son reunion warmed Pei Yan’s heart amusedly, yet he dared not laugh aloud before the Ancestral God. He sat properly before the elder, waiting patiently for their reunion to conclude before addressing his own matters.
"I’m dying."
"Hmm."
"Ah? What!" While gently stroking Garbage, the Ancestral God nonchalantly uttered this phrase, and Pei Yan instinctively replied with a sound. Yet once he realized what was spoken, he abruptly lifted his head, eyes wide, exclaiming in shock.
Dying? How could the origin itself die? Since Pei Yan learned the true nature of this world, he had never heard of such a concept. Even a newly initiated being from the Superpower Realm knows the origin is immortal! It’s a self-originated will of a plane. If the origin could be killed, then K and others wouldn’t have resorted to imprisoning Lin Junzhao; they would have simply killed her.
Yet now the state of the Ancestral God, far stronger than Lin Junzhao ever was, claims he is dying!
